Thackeray bahu to make film on Babri demolition

Mumbai: Babri Masjid demolition may have split the Indian political class down the middle but Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray`s daughter-in-law Smita is planning a film on the issue, which she claims will represent the common man`s view on the subject, minus any political leanings.
Once considered a power centre at "Matoshree", the Thackeray household, Smita has clarified that the movie would not put forth the stance of the Shiv Sena on the controversy. "There is no political angle to the film. My film is about the common man`s point of view. On how he sees the whole subject," she told PTI today. The announcement of the film, titled `Babri`, comes two months after the Supreme Court asked the Sena supremo to spell out his stand on a CBI plea for the restoration of charges against him of hatching a criminal conspiracy to demolish the mosque in 1992. "I have had 5-6 meetings with actor Aamir Khan and he has given his creative inputs for the script. I have spoken with Ajay Devgan, who is now in London, to feature in the film," Smita said. Though Aamir will not act in the film, Smita acknowledged the actor`s contribution "on the idea level". He (Aamir) appreciated the intention with which I am making the film. He is busy with other projects and won`t feature in the film, she said. "The bound script is ready and we launch the film in 3 months. I expect to finish the film in a single schedule and release it before the final verdict on the Babri case is announced," she said. "I was thinking about this subject for a long time and I want to put forward my views in a cinematic way," she said. PTI
