London: Large numbers of men have complained that they struggled to maintain erections when using conventional condoms in sex.
To help them overcome this situation, a UK Biotech firm has come up with an innovative new contraceptive condom that not only keeps erection for longer but also helps them have pleasurable and safe sex.
Unlike the blue Viagra tablets, the condom is not targeted at people who have erectile dysfunction and impotence. Instead, it will help people who find condoms difficult to use.
The company has lined the new products with a gel that is used to treat angina by increasing blood flow to the heart. Instead, more blood goes to the penis.
The makers say that men who use the condoms reported firmer and stronger erections that lasted longer with their partners.
It is hoped that the new product will reduce the spread of STIs by providing an incentive for men to use contraception.
They could also prevent condoms unexpectedly slipping off.
However, the beneficial properties may also attract male customers who want to use the contraception for recreational purposes to improve their sex life.
The product, called the CSD500, could be on the market in the UK within a year after it was said to be close to regulatory approval.
`The challenge is having a stable product in a condom - a gel that doesn`t do anything detrimental to the condom," the Daily Mail quoted James Barder, from makers Futura Medical, as telling the Wall Street Journal.
He said that immobilizing the vasodilating gel inside the condom so that it only touches the wearer during sex was` the clever part`.
`Some products can degrade the latex very quickly. It has to be immobilized in the condom,` he said.
