London: Software giant Microsoft has launched a campaign targeting rival firm Google, asking the Internet search giant’s users not to get ‘scroogled by Gmail’
The new campaign encourages users of Google''s free e-mail service to dump it for Microsoft''s Outlook.com.
In its promotion of Outlook.com, Microsoft highlights what it claims is Gmail''s ‘invasion of your privacy’ on its Scroogled website, adding that ‘Outlook.com is different, and does not through your email to sell ads’, the Telegraph reports.
The Microsoft site includes a feed of quotes from Eric Schmidt, Google''s executive chairman, including his infamous declaration that "if you have something that you don''t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn''t be doing it in the first place".
According to the paper, the Gmail campaign follows a series of Scroogled adverts last year that targeted Google''s privacy policies.
According to Microsoft, 70 percent of people don't know that some email services scan the text of their messages to deliver advertising.
The paper quoted the company’s survey, which says 88 percent of people disapprove of the practice.
