Mumbai: Television and film producer Ekta Kapoor was detained at the airport here on her way back from Bangkok Sunday night for carrying undeclared goods and released after she paid duty, an official said.
"She was intercepted while she passed the green channel for carrying undeclared goods. She was released after paying a penalty of Rs.50,000," Deputy Commissioner of Customs (Airport) Sameer Wankhede told reporters Monday.
Kapoor is the latest in a long line of celebrities held by the Mumbai customs department for carrying undeclared goods.
On June 27, actress Anushka Sharma was detained at the Mumbai airport for carrying undeclared jewellery worth Rs.35 lakh. She was on her way back to India after attending the IIFA awards at Toronto.
On June 7, Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat`s brother Vikram Lamba was detained for carrying excess foreign currency and dutiable items.
On May 26, Bipasha Basu had to pay duty of Rs.13,000 for carrying excess baggage.
A few days before that, on May 18, another Bollywood actress, Minissha Lamba, was detained for 16 hours by the customs department for carrying undeclared jewellery worth nearly Rs.50 lakh.
