Five achievers honoured with Sanskriti awards

Achievers in literature, art and dance were conferred the Sanskriti Awards.

New Delhi: Five young achievers in the fields of literature, art, journalism, dance and social service were conferred the Sanskriti Awards in a glittering ceremony at the India International Centre (IIC) Friday.
The recipients included young Manipuri litterateur Thoudam Netrajit Singh, journalist Anahita Mukherjee, artist Prajakta Potnis, danseuse Kapila Venu and a West Bengal-based non-profit network Street Survivors of India. Presenting the award, Lalit Kala Akademi chairman Ashok Vajpeyi said: "It is a unique award that recognised work by young people across the spectrum." "The winners are not terribly young but have not yet reached their peak. We have caught them at such a point of their life when they are midway into their careers and they have a long way to go," he said. "I would say it is a long winding process by which we arrive at the panel of winners," Vajpeyi said. The Sanskriti Awards were instituted in 1979. Till 1989, the scope of the award was limited to Delhi, but it later widened its ambit and scouted for talent across the country. The awards are aimed at discovering emerging talent in the age group of 25-35 years. IANS
