London: A new survey has revealed that when children ask their parents questions like, "where does water come from?", "why is the sky blue?" and "what is infinity?", they are often left without an answer.
The survey, conducted on 2500 parents, showed they were unable to give their children a correct answer for even the most basic questions about the planet, outer space and the human body.
The study reveals that modern day parents are increasingly turning to the internet to answer difficult questions from their children with 56 percent saying they use the web.
Four in ten parents confess to feeling inadequate when they don`t know an answer and 63 per cent answer on a whim even if they think the answer may be wrong.
The survey was commissioned by the makers of a new TV programme What Do Kids Know?, to be broadcast on digital channel Watch on January 10.
"It`s fascinating to see how parents tackle difficult questions brought to them by youngsters and how many of us will actually make something up rather than deal with the truth," the Telegraph quoted Paul Moreton, head of Watch, as saying.
"Our programme aims to help viewers find out a little more about how kids minds work and shows the size of the knowledge gap between adults and children," he added.
