Superman to renounce his US citizenship?

Superman is slammed for making an appearance in Iran.

New York: He is the icon of the American way but Superman has sparked controversy by announcing plans to renounce his US citizenship in a twist in the Action Comics` 900th issue this week.
The superhero, who champions the truth, justice and the American way, decides to do away with his citizenship after being caught in the middle of a diplomatic row between Washington and Tehran. In the upcoming story, Superman is slammed for making an appearance in Iran to support the country`s rebel protests but it leaves him as an illegal alien, The New York Post reported. The new twist is being called a radical departure for the character, best known for his iconic red, white and blue suit, first created in 1938 by Jerry Stiegel and Joe Shuster. "Truth, justice and the American way - it`s not enough anymore. I intend to speak before the United Nations tomorrow and inform them that I am renouncing my US citizenship. I`m tired of having my actions construed as instruments of US policy. I`ve been thinking too small. I realize that now," Superman tells the president`s National Security Advisor in the new issue. But DC Comics co-publishers Jim Lee and Dan Didio insisted Clark Kent`s alter ego is not turning his back on America. "Superman is a visitor from a distant planet who has long embraced American values. As a character and an icon, he embodies the best of the American Way," they said in a statement. "In a short story in Action Comics 900, Superman announces his intention to put a global focus on his never ending battle, but he remains, as always, committed to his adopted home and his roots as a Kansas farm boy from Smallville," the statement added.
