New Delhi: Dropped a call while greeting New Year wishes to your friends or family? Yes! You may get compensated for the call dropped, but only if the call was initiated from your phone. So if your drop 3 calls a day, the service provider is liable to pay you Rs 1 for each call dropped.

The chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), R S Sharma on Thursday said that the order on compensating for call drops comes into effect from January 1.

The Delhi High Court on December 22 had refused to stay the penalty on call drops on the petition on telecom service providers.

Cellular Operators Association of India, the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India and telecom companies had approached the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of Trai’s order that mandated compensation for call drops. The next hearing in the Court will take place on January 6.
