Directed by Pierre Morel, ‘From Paris With Love’ is a combination of Hollywood films like ‘Lethal Weapon’ and ‘The Hurt Locker’. When compared with Pierre’s ‘Taken’, this film seems a mad rush of action and it fails to register Pierre’s talent of implementing unflinching violence on screen. The movie stars John Travolta as a CIA agent Charlie Wax and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as James Reese, a government agent working at the US Embassy in France. This baffling action movie is set in the French capital. The story revolves around secret agent Charlie Wax (John Travolta), who is on a mission to take out a drugs ring working in Paris. Wax befriends James Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) during his mission. The controversy starts when security officials at Paris airport refuse Wax to enter the country with energy drinks containers he is carrying with him. The containers actually play hideout for firearms. There enters his new buddy James Reese to intervene in the matter and finally Wax is granted permission to enter the country. Soon after, Wax finds out that drug dealers are somehow related to the Pakistani terrorists. Some scenes of shootouts and bombings later, the movie’s focus take a turn from the coke dealers to a Pakistani terror cell. John Travolta impresses in the action scenes and dominates the screen space in the whole film. Rhys Meyers was good but fails to come out of John’s shadow. This movie lacks a strong script and is not implemented well, too. The movie could have done far better with its cinematography. Overall, this chaotic action-adventure movie is good for nothing and is a complete waste of time. Ratings: One and a half star to this one!
