Writer Pankaj Advani’s ‘Sankat City’ can be called a smart flick with a great story line that has everything going for it.It takes you back to one of Bollywood`s different genres of movies that don’t boast of a skyline budget. ‘Sankat City’ is a movie sans super stars with no frills attached. It, quite simply, has a smart story, told in a gripping fashion and boasts of some awesome performances by the industry stalwarts like Anupam Kher and Kay Kay Menon. It is sheer talent that wants you to catch this one. A yet another brilliant take on Mumbai’s darkness, sprinkled with a little bit of gangsters and goonism here and there. This dark comedy sets in motion with Guru (Kay Kay) stealing a car, packed with money. What follows next is how a trip down the shadowy Mumbai as a harassed Guru tries to pay back the lost loot. In the entire process, he bumps into Mona (Rimi Sen), a not so good a girl, who has a little mission up her sleeve, which is to get rich quickly anyway. Mona is on a lookout for a partner who can cheat a shrewd property dealer (Yashpal Sharma). Guru and Mona, then encounter all of the rest wannabe millionaires including- a film producer, an actor`s body double, a don`s assistant, a driver and a mechanic, before they return don Faujdar`s (Anupam Kher) stolen money. ‘Sankat City’ turns out to be a roller-coaster ride through Mumbai. Anupam Kher and Kay Kay give a standout performance. Rimi Sen’s act can be easily called her best till date. So, catch it while it’s still around for you won’t be disappointed. Rating: Three cheers for this laugh riot!
