Anand: Vipul Chaudhary was Saturday unanimously elected as Chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), a Rs 11,660-crore turnover entity that markets products under the popular brand Amul.
Chaudhary, who is Chairman of Mehsana district-based Doodhsagar Dairy, which is amongst the 16 union-members of GCMMF, replaces Parthi Bhatol.
Bhatol, who also heads Banas Dairy in Banaskantha district, completed his term as federation Chairman on June 26. But since the election for the post was not announced by District Collectorate, he was holding charge of the politically important co-operative body of Gujarat till a successor was found.
According to GCMMF sources, Chaudhary's name was proposed by the the outgoing Chairman and he was elected unopposed.
The new Chairman, considered close to the ruling BJP, thanked the State Government for guidance and providing him support. "I thank the Government for being a guiding force."
Soon after being elected, Chaudhary announced that federation would be providing cattle feed for one lakh animals daily at 50 per cent rates in the scarcity-affected regions of Saurashtra and Kutch.
He said the federation would soon initiate proceedings for the take over of assets of Gujarat Dairy Development Board (GDDB) from National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
It is unfortunate that GCMMF could not take over responsibility of GDDB assets, but now we shall acquire them from NDDB by paying for their investment in infrastructure of the board, Chaudhary said.
In mid-July, Gujarat High Court had directed the District Collector of Anand, where the federation is headquartered, to complete the election of GCMMF Chairman within 30 days.
