New Delhi: Essar Steel on Tuesday said it has supplied 9,000 tonnes steel plates for a subsea tankage project meant for UK-based Premier Oil.
"The plates will be used in building oil and gas reservoirs in the sea bed at a depth of 130 metres below sea level, at a temperature lower than minus 40 degree celsius," Essar Steel said in a statement.
The tankage project is being executed in the North Sea for Premier Oil by Dry Docks World Dubai.
Plates, supplied by the domestic steel firm, are designed to withstand harsh operating conditions and are maintenance-free with a life of over 50 years, it added.
"The successful execution of this order bears testimony to the capabilities of Essar Steel to manufacture steel conforming to the highest international standards," company's CEO and MD Dilip Oommen said.
Essar Steel has a plate mill with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes at Hazira in Gujarat.
