Apple, Samsung to make peace on patent wars?

Apple, Samsung to make peace on patent wars? Washington: A US judge who oversaw the 1.5billion dollars award of patent damages to Apple against Samsung, has urged both the tech giants to put an end to the legal dispute.

“It''s time for global peace,” U.S. District Court Judge Lucy Koh told both companies.

“Is there anything the court can do? I''m more than willing to issue orders. It would be good for consumers, good for the industry, good for the parties,” she added.

According to CNET, Samsung attorney Charles Verhoeven said that they are ‘willing to do so’. “We are willing. The ball''s in their court,” the report quoted Verhoeven, as saying.

According to the report, that''s a stark difference from statements made by Samsung Mobile Chief J.K. Shin last month, who said the company had no intent to negotiate peace with Apple.

The two tech giants returned to the US court so that a judge could review a jury''s decision to award Apple 1.05 billion dollars in damages.

The South Korean firm wanted the patent verdict overturned, or the sum reduced.

By contrast, Apple is wanted the court to increase the amount and ban some of Samsung''s handsets.
