Bihar confident to purchase 30 lakh tonnes of foodgrains by Apr 15 Patna: Bihar government on Saturday said that it has purchased about 70,000 tonne of foodgrains upto now and is confident of meeting the target of buying 30 lakh tonne by April 15.

Food minister Shayam Rajak told reporters that the process of purchase of grains from farmers have slowed down due to cold nowadays but it would pick up soon.

"We will definitely meet the target to purchase 30 lakh tonne of grains by April 15, 2013," Rajak added.

He said more purchase outlets would be opened after Makarsankranti (January 14) to speed up the process.

By the end of January the department is expecting to buy about 12 lakh tonne of grains, the minister said.

Giving details about "Door step delivery" scheme, Rajak said it has been decided that one block of every district would be earmarked as pilot project under the scheme, he said adding it would be launched by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar soon.

He said under the scheme, instead of PDS outlets lifting subsidised grains, the government would supply them to these outlets and information regaring this would be given to the consumers.

Rajak said for effective vigilance over FCI godowns, camera fitted computerised surveillance system would be installed. In the first phase the project would start in Patna and Nalanda.
