New Delhi: After many speculations and image leaks, Samsung finally unveiled its Galaxy Note 8.0 on Sunday, a day ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona beginning on February 25.

The eight-inch tablet with phone-call capability is powered by a 1.6GHz A9 quad-core processor. It runs on Android 4.1.2 Jellybean version and sports a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 1.3 megapixel front camera.

Galaxy Note 8.0 is an S Pen-enabled tablet that has a WXGA TFT screen with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. It has 2GB RAM and will come in 16GB and 32GB variants with an expandable memory of up to 64GB.

Like previous models of the Galaxy Note, the device comes with a stylus pen allowing the user to write or draw on the screen, which can be split in two to run various programs at the same time.

Its connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 & 5 GHz), Wi-Fi Direct, AllShareCast, BT4.0, and USB2.0.

Reportedly, the Korean phone makers are planning to place this tablet to rival Apple's recently launched iPad mini and to cement its market dominance by offering devices in a variety of sizes.

The two tech giants — Samsung and Apple accounted for more than half of all smartphone sales in the final quarter of 2012 — 29.0 percent for Samsung and 22.1 percent for Apple.
