Global coffee exports up 19.5% in January

Global coffee exports up 19.5% in January New Delhi: Global coffee exports rose by 19.5 percent to 9.66 million bags in January this year on higher shipments from top exporting nations Brazil and Vietnam, the International Coffee Organisation (ICO) said.

The worldwise shipments stood at 8.09 million bags in the same month last year. On bag contains 60 kg of coffee.

Much of the coffee has been exported from top producing countries like Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia and Columbia.

Coffee exports from Brazil rose by 18.2 percent to 2.53 million bags in January this year, as against 2.14 million bags in the year-ago period.

Similarly, the shipment from Vietnma increased sharply by 42 percent to 2.7 million bags from 1.9 million bags, while exports from Colombia shot up by 37 percent to 0.74 million bags from 0.54 million bags in the review period.

Exports from Indonesia grew marginally by 1.8 percent to 0.64 million bags in January this year from 0.63 million bags in the same month last year.

Shipments from India rose marginally to 0.35 million bags from 0.34 million bags in the review period.

According to ICO, overall global coffee export in the first four months of the current marketing year that started from October 2012, rose by 15.8 percent to 37.9 million bags due to growth in robusta varieties.
