New Delhi: Agricultural Minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday stated that no drop in onion production is expected due to some crop damage owing to rains and that prices are likely to fall in next 2-3 weeks.
“The centre is set to release Rs 921.98 crore to Maharashtra for damages to onion crop due to excess rains,” Pawar said.
Reiterating what the agricultural minister said, commerce minister Anand Sharma also emphasised that there was no real scarcity of onions and that its prices are expected to stabilise in coming few weeks.
Earlier this week, onion prices touched Rs 100 per kg in some major cities as supplies remained tight and there appeared to be little respite.
