12 road projects worth Rs 6K cr lined up for CCEA approval

The CCEA is expected to clear about 12 road projects, entailing investments of over Rs 6,000 crore, over the next few weeks.

New Delhi: The CCEA is expected to clear about 12 road projects, entailing investments of over Rs 6,000 crore, over the next few weeks.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways hopes to get 12 highway projects, each with an investment of over Rs 500 crore, approved from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, sources said.

"Around 2-3 project proposals may be cleared in every meeting of CCEA in the next one month," said a source, declining to name the projects. The next meeting of the CCEA is expected tomorrow.

Projects with less than Rs 500 crore investment will not go to the Cabinet but will be approved by the ministry itself.

"Some of the projects, including 12 such proposals which will go to the Cabinet, are spill over of the previous fiscal's projects and some projects converted from annuity to EPC (engineering, procurement and construction)," said the official source.

Last month, CCEA approved the widening of highways in Bihar and Gujarat at an estimated cost of Rs 1,912 crore.

The projects include four-laning of a highway stretch Gaya-Hisua-Rajgir-Nalanda-Biharsharif section in Bihar for Rs 1,408.85 crore and six-laning of a Vadodara-Surat section in Gujarat at a cost of Rs 503.16 crore.

Of the total cost of the Bihar project, Rs 1,216.16 crore would be spent on civil construction and supervision works and Rs 192.69 crore on land acquisition, rehabilitation and pre-construction activities.

The 6-laning of the Vadodra-Surat section of the national highway includes the construction of a new four-lane bridge across the Narmada River and two eight-lane flyovers.
