New Delhi: The Urban Development ministry said on Tuesday that over 5,000 quarters in government colonies here were in a dilapidated condition but added that repair works were carried as and when required.
In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, minister of state in the Urban Development ministry Saugata Roy gave the approximate number of houses, identified to be in a dilapidated condition.
As per the details, Delhi had 5268 government houses in decaying condition while Mumbai, Kolkata and Nagpur had 704, 40 and 8 such quarters respectively.
"Repair and rehabilitation works are carried out on regular basis depending upon the condition of quarters and availability of budget," he said.
In response to another question, Roy also said that there were no laid norms for the extension of the National Capital Region area.
