Mumbai: The ‘idiot’ who lives by the funda of following excellence and not success, Aamir Khan proves yet again that he is different from his contemporaries. Khan, who is famous for not attending any award shows agreed to attend one, reportedly because it commemorates the Indian cinema’s 100 years history.
Aamir is all set to grace the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards that will be presented today. The actor will not be there to receive any award, but to unveil a wax statue of Dadasaheb Phalke, the Hindi film pioneer who directed India`s first full-length feature, `Raja Harishchandra` in 1913.
The event will unfold at Juhu`s Hotel Tulip Star and will honour some of Bollywood`s biggest names. This award is different from the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award instituted by the Government of India.
According to reports, Ashok Shekhar, son of veteran actor Chandrashekhar, one of the organisers of the event, said that they have written confirmation from Aamir that he will be present at the function.
Word has it that Aamir will come for just half an hour and will not accept any award. He will be seated next to Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna, who are being honoured with the Phalke Ratna and Legendary Actor trophies respectively.
The last time Aamir attended an award show was when John Travolta, Hollywood icon, presented a trophy to Aamir at GQ’s Men of the Year Awards in 2010. And before that in 2008, Aamir accepted a special award from the Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratisthan.
Talking about honours, Aamir has also accepted the Padma Bhushan from Indian president Pratibha Patil in 2010.
