Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s fortune exceeded USD 18 billion in the early 2000s. In 2009 Forbes put his fortune at USD 12bn. However, during the recession of the late 2000s he lost a big chunk of his fortune when markets tumbled and had to even seek help for the same. But he is back now to where he belongs with various investments in such as Dubai World, real estate developer Nakheel Properties, through which he has helped craft the landscape of Dubai, including the distinctive fake archipelago, The Palm Jumeirah.
