CHENNAI: Ahead of Pongal festival, at least 12 arriving flights were on Saturday diverted and 30 departing flights were delayed in Chennai due to smoke.

The Chennai International Airport witnessed a massive smoke due to the burning of old articles on Bogi festival. Flight operations, however, have resumed.

Bogi festival, also known as Bhogi, is the first day of the four-day-long Pongal festival.

It is celebrated in the honour of Lord Indra who is believed to be 'the God of Clouds and Rains'.
