1st Test: Alastair Cook & Co defeat Bangladesh by 22 runs in dramatic match at Chittagong

Chasing 286 to win, Bangladesh need 33 more runs while England need two wickets to deprive the hosts of a big upset.

Chittagong: Ben Stokes picked the remaining two wickets in his second over on Day 5 of the first Test to guide England to a 22-run win. Sabbir Rahman remained unbeaten on 64 as Taijul Islam and Shafiul Islam were trapped in front of the wicket by the English all-rounder. The crowd was stunned as they could not believe what had happened.

Resuming play on 253/8, Rahman and Islam added 10 more runs to the total and were looking all set to guide their team to what would have been their biggest Test win. But that was not the case as Stokes shifted the momentum in England's favour in the fourth over of the day with a double blow.

Ben Stokes got England a much-needed breakthrough when Taijul Islam was trapped in front of the wicket! The left-hander was looking to work the ball down the leg side, but it hit him on the pads. Next man Shafiul Islam couldn't show much resistance as he was trapped in front of the wicket as he wasn't looking to play any shot. Stokes has done it for England! Alastair Cook and his men win the match by 22 runs to take a 1-0 lead.

On a topsy-turvy day, the crowd witnessed some breathtaking action as English bowlers gave heartbreak to local fans with several breakthroughs. All eyes are now on Sabbir Rahman, the debutant, who was unbeaten on 59 at stumps.

After losing eighth wicket for 238, Rahman, along with Taijul Islam (11), stitched unbeaten 15 runs for the ninth wicket so far.

Chasing 286 runs for victory, the turning point of the match came when England broke the 87-run stand between Rahman and skipper Mushfiqur (39), who was dismissed by Gareth Batty.

Stuart Broad then went on to remove Mehedi Hasan and Kamrul Islam in no time.
