New Delhi: Liam Thomas, a member of the England Physical Disabilities team, was fielding along the leg-side boundary when he lost his prosthetic right leg while attempting to prevent a ball from going for four against Pakistan in the final of the ICC Academy Invitational T20 tournament in Dubai.

Thomas had put in a dive to stop the ball which resulted in his artificial limb coming off, though that didn't stop him from discontinuing fielding. He quickly got up, hoped on one leg, picked up the ball and threw it towards the stumps.

"It just happened, really. I was sprinting for the ball, put my hand out, hit the deck hard and the next thing I know I stood up and had no leg. I didn't know whether to grab the leg or get the ball in. I decided to go for the ball," Thomas said after the match.

"Having a disability, we all take the fun out of each other a little bit, we all have each other's backs, so we are all trying to give each other grief when something like that happens,"

"Never in a million years would I have thought I would be touring Dubai, playing cricket, doing something I love. It's just not something you think a disabled person would do, but being involved in disabled sport allows you access to do stuff like that," added a jubilant Thomas
