Focus on Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma as Indore take Test bow

New Delhi: So, it's confirmed. Gautam Gambhir will wear India colours once again, after more than two years in wilderness. And the Indore Test will become the stage from where the opener can re-launch his career.

Earlier today, captain Virat Kohli confirmed that his state-mate will open for India in the final and third Test match, thus giving the limelight on the 34-year-old batsman.

Now that the dilemma over the future of third Test has been cleared, fans are desperately waiting for the match to start – not just because of the whole controversy but also to see Gautam Gambhir in the Indian whites yet again.

Having won the series already, with an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, India needed the continuity, that of winning. (ALSO READ: India vs New Zealand, 3rd Test, Preview)

But with a barrage of injuries, India can't afford to relax and rightly opted to play a seasoned hand in Gambhir. His is out of international set-up, but the left-handed batsman is always known for hard-work and sheer will.

Gambhir last played for India in a Test match against England in 2014, and has been out of India reckoning. But a good domestic season during the Duleep trophy, and injuries to couple of openers have given him a deserved new chance.

And a good show in the Indore Test will help return to the national fold.

Another player who will remain in focus, is Rohit Sharma – the Mr. Talent.

He managed to silence an ever increasing list of critics with a fluent 82 in the the second innings of second Test at Eden Gardens.

But a failure at Holkar Stadium, just immediately after a good knock, will once again give his detractors enough salvo to fire at him. Thanks to that innings, he gained 14 spots in the ICC Test ranking, and is now at the No.38 spot.

With a long home season ahead, both the batsmen will like to take the Indore match as a litmus tests in their bids to become original starters.
