New Delhi: At the end of Day 1 of the first Test match between India and New Zealand at Kanpur, the hosts had lost 9 wickets for a total of 291 runs. The Kiwis will be hoping to wrap-up the last wicket in the first 5-10 overs itself and start batting early on Day 2.
The pitch is expected to suit spinners immensely as the match progresses. (READ: IND vs NZ, 1st Test Day 1: Twitter destroys Rohit Sharma after yet another disappointing performance)
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar is expecting second day of play to give the Indian spin wizards, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja huge advantage.
Speaking to NDTV, here's what Gavaskar said:
"India are not out of the game. Ashwin and Jadeja can run amok tomorrow. There is purchase in the wicket. India have their hopes high from the spinners. They must stop big partnerships to keep New Zealand in check tomorrow."
The cricket great also praise New Zelanad's spinners by stating, "It was a good call by New Zealand to play three spinners. Ish Sodhi can win you a match with three-four wickets."
Mitchell Santner, Sodhi and Mark Craig took a total of five wickets with Santner picking up three for the Kiwis.
