Pakistan have dealt with a huge blow as their opening batsman Fakhar Zaman is all set to miss the Boxing Day Test of the upcoming three-match series against South Africa after aggrevating a knee injury.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury while pulling off a spectacular run-out during his side's second Twenty20I against Australia. Zaman, however, played the following five-match ODI seires against New Zealand with injury before he was not picked for the ongoing Tests between the two sides in order to get time off for rehabilitation.

He is now set to be out of action for three to five weeks and is also doubtful for the entire Test series against South Africa.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Zaman is scheduled to join the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) medical staff at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on December 4, when he will be assessed before a recovery plan will be charted out.

After proving himself in Pakistan's limited-overs side, Zaman made his Test debut in October in the UAE as he scored blistering knocks of 94 and 68 to help his side thrash Australia by 373 runs.

Pakistan are slated to play three-match Test series against South Africa from December 26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion before the two sides head into five ODIs and three T20Is.
