Kings XI Punjab

Young and exuberant; these are the synonyms for the Kings XI Punjab team. Led by the robust Yuvraj Singh, the Punjab outfit displays the energy and vigour that is needed to win the mega event.
The last season of the Indian Premier League, started on a catastrophic note for the Preity Zinta-Ness Wadia owned team as they lost their first two matches. However, they gained momentum later in the tournament and booked a berth for themselves in the semis, where they lost to Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings by 9 wickets.
This year, the team is all charged up, especially with a couple of new acquisitions.
The squad enjoys an intoxicating cocktail of some fine batsmen, some admirable all-rounders and some exceptional bowlers.
Where on one hand, the side possess the classy strokes of Shaun Marsh, Simon Katich and Mahela Jayawardene; on the other hand it also encompasses the pace of Sreesanth, Brett Lee and Yusuf Abdullah. And of course, not to forget those who have displayed their expertise with both, the bat and the ball; Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Kumar Sangakkara, James Hopes, Ravi Bopara, Irfan Pathan and Jerome Taylor are some of the big names bejewelling the Kings crown.
However, what will worry the team in the tournament initially will be the absence of most of these crucial players. Marsh, Katich and Lee (who is also suffering from an injury) will be missing the IPL action in the first phase due to their commitments back home. Sreesanth, also down with injury, will also abstain himself from the event.
Nevertheless, the void created by Lee and Sree will be well filled up; thanks to the team’s latest acquisition, Bopara, and not to forget Irfan Pathan, who has displayed match winning performances in the last season. One also cannot forget Taylor and Abdullah, who may also enjoy the chance to exploit their skills with the cherry in the absence of Lee and Sree.
And with the services of deadly Sri Lankan duo of Jayawardene and Sangakkara, the team truly holds the potential to dethrone the defending champions Rajasthan Royals this year in South Africa.
