Hobart: Wishes poured in from all corners as South Africa took an unassailable 2-0 lead against Australia by winning the second Test of the three-match series by an innings and 80 runs at Bellerive Oval.

After taking a 241-run lead in the first innings, Kyle Abbott and Kagiso Rabada ran through the Australian batting order to register an emphatic win with one day remaining.

The South African cricket fraternity was full of praise for Faf du Plessis and his men, who have dictated terms right through the beginning of the series.

Resurgent South Africa won the series-opener in Perth by 177 runs and will head into their first day-night test match in Adelaide next week confident they can sweep their demoralised opponents.

It was their third straight test series win in Australia after their 2008 and 2012 successes.
