Sachin Tendulkar should resign as Rajya Sabha MP due to poor attendance: Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Aggarwal

New Delhi: Naresh Aggarwal, a Samajwadi Party MP from Uttar Pradesh put forth an issue, on Thursday, pointing out the dismal attendance of celeb MPs nominated to Rajya Sabha. Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and actress Rekha were among the names that popped up during the proceedings.

"We have been yearning to see the presence of the nominated members. They never come to the house. The entire session is over but we haven`t seen them, be it Sachin Tendulkar or film actress Rekha or the others," Naresh said in an upper house meeting. "If they are not coming, this means they have no interest in attending (Parliament). If they don`t have interest, then they should resign."

PRSIndia.org, a website tracking Parliamentary attendance, clearly numbers it out that Sachin's attendance during this year's budget session was just five per cent. 2016 Budget session shows his attendance percentage as 13 per cent, while the Monsoon and Winter session as 15 and 10 respectively. The former Indian batsman thus averages around eight per cent. Times Now reports have actually revealed that Sachin has missed all the meetings of standing committee on I-T.

On the other hand, the data for veteran actress Rekha, shows as five per cent, while the country's average stands as 78 per cent.

This is not the first times that they are facing such criticisms. A similar news had actually cropped up a year go too.

Speaking to Times Now on the same, Supreme Court lawyer Harsi Salve expressed his regret saying, "The sad part is Government nominates such people. Government must nominate only those who are serious about legislative work." He further added, "Rajya Sabha membership is not a ‘trophy,’ it’s a sacred place, where valuable work is done."

On contrary, former cricketer Atul Wassan said, "I agree, if he has been nominated, he should have taken out some time, but at least he is adding some value to Rajya Sabha."

Salve further added that it would been great, if the Master Blaster attends the Parliament session and hits a few ‘sixes'"
