Virat Kohli ducks in Tests: 5 times Indian Test skipper failed to open his account in five-day format

New Delhi: Virat Kohli's sensational run in Tests came to a shocking halt after the Indian skipper was dismissed for a second-ball duck by Mitchell Starc on Day 2 of the first Test match against Australia in Pune.

Starc, the spearhead of Australian bowling attack, lured the flamboyant right-handed batsman with a fullish wide delivery and an edge was nicely snaffled by Steve Smith at second slip.

The left-arm seamer, who was said to be a huge threat for India's star-studded batting line-up, stunned the spectators at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium by dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara and Kohli in a space of three balls.

While Kohli has been breaking a plethora of records with each passing series, he was given a reality check by Starc, who dismissed Kohli for his first duck on Indian soil.

Kohli, who recently became the first batsman to score four double centuries in as many series, has now been dismissed on nought on five occasions in the five-day format.

Here's a look at five occasions where Kohli failed to open his account:

Vs Australia, Pune (2017): Facing Starc, Kohli perished for his first duck on Indian soil after chasing a wide delivery, as the edge was neatly grabbed at first slip.

Vs England, Manchester (2014): Kohli's horrible form in the series continued as he ended up scoring his second duck of the series. On this occasion, he edged one from James Anderson, again in the cordon.

Vs England, Lord's (2014): During that forgettable tour to England, Kohli was dismissed for his Test career's third duck when he was bowled by Liam Plunkett for a first-ball duck in India's second innings.

Vs Australia, Melbourne (December 2011): Playing his first Test in Australia, Kohli was trapped in front of the wicket by Ben Hilfenhaus off the first ball.

Vs West Indies, Bridgetown (June 2011): Playing his second Test match, Kohli was dismissed by Ravi Rampaul for a duck after facing two balls in the first innings.
