Didn't want to study engineering, IIT-Delhi student attempts suicide

Nitish Kumar Purthi, a first-year student of Engineering-Physics, is admitted at AIIMS trauma centre and his condition is stated to be critical, said a senior police officer.

New Delhi: A 19-year-old student of IIT-Delhi, who was in depression as he didn't want to study engineering, allegedly attempted suicide on Wednesday morning by jumping off the terrace of a hostel building.

Nitish Kumar Purthi, a first-year student of Engineering-Physics, is admitted at AIIMS trauma centre and his condition is stated to be critical, said a senior police officer.

He jumped from the fourth floor of Vindyachal hostel and has suffered a fracture in his legs, the officer said.

"He was in depression as he didn't want to study engineering. His roommate was taking him downstairs."

"When his roommate went to call a security guard for assistance, the student climbed the terrace on the fourth floor and jumped off the building," said the officer.
