Give me time till December 30, ready to face any punishment after that: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday said that government's demonetisation is bound to succeeded in the country when the common man is backing the drive despite facing huge hardship, and appealed to people to bear the hardship till December 30.

Panaji: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday said that government's demonetisation is bound to succeeded in the country when the common man is backing the drive despite facing huge hardship.

Modi thanked common public for bearing the hardship set off by government's currency replacement drive, and appealed to have patience till December 30.

"If I commit any mistake after December 30, I am ready to face any punishment the country will give me", said the Prime Minister. But I promise to deliver a corruption-free India.

“I promise to give you India, as you have dreamed of after December 30, said PM Modi. He said that he has more projects in mind to make India corruption-free; cooperate with me for 50 days to ensure this.

The Prime Minister said that it is the fight of the honest against corrupt. 

"I know the forces up against me, they may not let me live,they may ruin me because their loot of 70 years is in trouble, but am prepared", said Modi.

Currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 ceased to be legal tender from midnight on November 8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this in a surprise address to the nation and said that the decision was taken to root out the menace of black money and corruption.

The government has set a deadline of December 30 for the common public to get the old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 to get exchanged in banks.

PM Modi also appreciated the efforts of the bankers who have been working tirelessly to meet the requirements of common public and striving to to keep demonetisation scheme on track

"They have worked so much in one week, more than they would have worked in  one year”, said the Prime Minister..

He said that the retired bank officials are coming forward to offer their services to the banks they were formerly employed in to help deal with the workload necessitated by the demonetisation process. 

The Prime Minister turned emotional as he said that he was not born for sit on a chair of high office. Whatever I had, my family, my home...I left it for the nation. He said that he was voted by the people of the country to fight corruption. He added that these steps taken were not a display of arrogance. I have seen poverty and understand people's problems.

"The reason for this success is not Modi`s decision of November 8 alone but for the fact that 125 crore Indians are working towards it, set aside a few lakh (who aren`t)," PM Modi said.
