Thane: To add excitement to the Dahi Handi festival this time, a Shiv Sena leader from Thane has announced a prize of gold handi (pot) worth over Rs 3 lakh.
"We hold the dahi handi event at Tembi Naka here every year. This year, we will give away two separate prizes of gold handi, which is likely to cost anywhere between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 4 lakh," Shiv Sena district chief and MLA Eknath Shinde said.
"Even though the gold prices touching the skies this year, we will not compromise on the reward," he said.
Sanskruti Pratishthan, which is led by another Shiv Sena leader and MLA Pratap Sarnaik also announced that this year`s event, held by the Pratishthan, will be a ladies special.
He added that the team that reaches the seventh layer and breaks the handi, will be given a cash prize Rs 5 lakh.
Meanwhile, another Shiv Sena leader from the district Vilas Dhamale, has also organised a dahi handi festival for the physically challenged children on August 18 at Shivaji Maidan here.
