India is celebrating its 69th Republic Day and there is patriotic fervour all around. However, the spirit of patriotism and the passion for the country shouldn’t be restricted to one day. The zest for doing something for the Mother Land must remain ignited throughout our lives.

If you are wondering what you can do this Republic Day, let’s take a look at some of the ways we can celebrate the historic day.

Be the change you want to see in the world- Mahatma Gandhi

Clean your surrounding and plant trees

Service to Mother Nature is service to the future of all forms of lives on earth. Clean up your surroundings, get rid of the garbage and rehabilitate the area by planting trees. Cleanliness will prevent diseases and more plants mean more oxygen. This way, you will help yourself, your neighbours and the stray animals in living a hygienic life. Thus you can also contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’ or the ‘Clean India Campaign’.

Visit a shelter for the old

Parents who are often abandoned by their children find shelter in old age homes. They pretend to be happy and cheerful but deep inside their hearts, they long for their children. By paying a visit to a shelter for the old today, you can make a few old people happy. All they need is love, warmth and affection. They could be the ones to have seen the freedom struggle. You can help yourself in getting a firsthand account of the freedom movement then.

Visit an orphanage

Just like children who abandon their old parents, many parents abandon their kids. Such innocent children are put up at orphanages. They look for compassionate arms that can embrace them, give them unconditional love and bless them. Try visiting an orphanage. Children are the future of our country. Celebrate this Republic Day with these children and inspire them to win laurels for our nation.

Visit shelter for animals

We humans often treat other living beings as inferior. We don’t treat them with respect. This Republic Day, by visiting a shelter for animals, you can make some of the mute beings happy. They can’t speak but can certainly understand the language of love and compassion. Spread joy around. They too deserve the freedom we humans have deprived them of.

Donate

You may buy new stuff when you feel your belongings have turned old. Instead of simply throwing away, donate them. You never know they might be of some use to someone. You can donate clothes, toys, bedspreads, books, food and even blood. Make sure, the things that you have set aside for donation are in usable condition. A nation can progress only when there’s equality. Try sharing some of your stuff to fulfil the needs of someone who may not be able to afford it.
