London: It’s just been a few days since Angelina Jolie has been spotted wearing her engagement ring, and a U.S. jewellery company has even created a replica version that claims to be ‘reminiscent’ of the actress’ 500,000 dollars table-cut band.
The Evelyn rock crystal and sterling silver ring, created by Gemvara, is on sale for only 1,195 dollars through the company’s website.
Although the value of the actress’ Robert Procop-designed ring has varied in reports - some claim it is a seven-carat diamond ring while others have said it is a 18-carat diamond ring - it is certain that the knock-off is no where near as striking as the original version.
But that has not stopped Gemvara from attempting to sell the ‘distinctive emerald-cut center gem and sparkling emerald-cut side stones’ like it is.
Shoppers are also invited to add their own personal touches to the ring by incorporating ‘favourite gems and metals.’
E Online has reported that if Brad Pitt, who personally designed his fiance’s ring with the LA-based jeweller, felt the need to sue Gemvara for copying his work, he could.
Lincoln Bandlow, an attorney told the website: ‘I don’t know why he would want to go out and stop people from doing this, but assuming he wanted to, there’s probably enough there to pursue.’
Procop said that it took the actor, who has been with his fiance for seven years, one year to finalise his design.
“Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realised over a year-long collaboration. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect so I was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina’s hand,” the Daily Mail quoted Procop as telling The Hollywood Reporter.
“Brad was always heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution,” he said.
The Gemvara design is not the only ring that has been compared to the original design.
Jacob ‘n’ Co., a high-end Swiss jewellery designer, has a very similar version.
The 6.79-carat diamond ring is sold for 530,000 dollars and is part of the company’s current collection.
“Angelina’s ring is very beautiful and the one that we have at Jacob ‘n’ Co stacks up perfectly next to the Procop ring,” Monique Meneses, a spokesperson for the company told The Hollywood Reporter.
She added that the company’s ring features a table-cut design, just like the Robert Procop design, which involves cutting a diamond flat like a table.
“It’s not as common a cut these days,” she said..
“But now that Angelina is wearing it, many people will probably be asking for a similar cut,” she added.
