Batgirl to walk again following DC Comics decision to re-launch her

London: Lead character of Batgirl, Barbara Gordon, is to get the use of her legs back after owners DC Comics decided to re-launch her.

The move comes 20-years after Gordon was paralysed from the waist down after she was shot through the spine by the Joker in the 1988 story ‘The Killing Joke’.

Gordon was reintroduced in 1989 as the wheelchair-bound character Oracle, who used her genius to work as a hacker fighting cyber crime while two other characters wore the Batgirl mask.

But DC Comics revealed that the heroine will regain her full strength in September.

The controversial move came as a part of a relaunch by the DC Comics that would begin the series again from issue number one.

The decision has caused an uproar among fans, who have claimed that Oracle was the only disabled superhero on the shelves.

“She’s been removed from the action and danger for a long time,” the Telegraph quoted Batgirl writer Gail Simone as telling Newsarama.

“With this relaunch she is still very much Barbara but she can reclaim part of her history and legacy with modern stories - in her own book and elsewhere - drawn by some wonderful artists,” she added.
