London: Mel Brooks has been recently honoured for his outstanding comedy career by the British Film Institute (BFI).
The American comedy legend said that he felt deeply honored after receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award, which is the highest accolade the BFI can bestow, the BBC reported.
The 88-year-old American comedian added that he was surprised and delighted when he got to know that he was chosen to be honoured as not many Americans had been offered this prestigious award for good reason.
Greg Dyke, chairperson of BFI explained that Brooks' brilliant wit and satire have continued to surprise and delight people, as he has taken comedy to areas once held taboo, and also the comedian's energy have made the world a much funnier place.
Brooks began his career as a stand-up comic in the 1940s and went on to make his name as a writer, actor, producer and director.
