Budding designers present impressive show at LFW

The Lakme Fashion Week returned to the city today with six fresh designers showcasing their collections in the opening show. The six talented designers at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 were mentored by ace designer Anita Dongre.

Chandni Mohan`s collection was inspired by Preston Scott`s architecture. Working on a colour palette of black, white and red, the sharply cut angular boxy dresses, tunics, skirts offered a variety of options to the modern woman. Designer Divya Sheth presented a mix of far east motifs and silhouettes with Indian textiles - the stylish line inspired by Mary Cassatt`s `Lady at the Tea Table`. Borrowing motifs from Japan and Morocco, Divya went in for unconventional silhouettes that were inspired by geometric tea bags and saucers. The collection had one-shoulder dress, trousers, asymmetric summer dress, cocktail creations and draped gowns. For a perfect English tea party appearance, Divya`s diversely inspired line seems to have great international appeal. Offering a redefined look in retro style, Parul Bhargava`s collection was inspired by serenity. It had an old world charm of the 1950`s as models sashayed in skirts, boxy jackets, dresses, flowing palazzos and tops in beige, brown and blue with deeper hues of brown splashed with abstract prints. Sreejith Jeevan`s collection called `Weather Forecast` was inspired by the romantic rain of picturesque Kerala. The collection had hip length tees, dresses, pleated pants, skirts, jackets, casual tunics, long tube in shades of grey, with brown and white with motifs of umbrellas, raindrops, paper boats and cars. The outfits had a young appeal. A collection titled `No Longer the Hunted` was presented by Ujjawal Dubey, whose garments had raw appeal where the silhouettes and colours were inspired by the cold deserts of the world. The collection saw trousers, tunics, jackets, coats and the colours remained muted as grey, black, beige added excitement to the garments. Vilvin Sabu`s show `Tropical Chic` was inspired by heritage and art. The sporty summer/resort collection of shorts, rompers, body suits, blouses with splashes of abstract prints, minis, pants and jackets was a refreshing offering. Colours were vibrant with green, rust, fuchsia, navy and maroon.
