Celebs take stand to protect BBC, write letter to David Cameron for protection

Washington DC: Celebs like Judi Dench, Daniel Craig and JK Rowling have joined a host of other stars who are demanding that the Prime Minister should protect the BBC from government proposals.

In a letter written to David Cameron, the celebs have urged him to not allow the changes that would turn the channel into a narrowly focused market-failure broadcaster, reported E! Online.

The letter's signatories, who include Stephen Fry, Chris Evans and Clare Balding, have also said that a diminished BBC would simply mean a diminished Britain.

Organised by TV astronomer Brian Cox, the appeal was signed by 29 actors, presenters and writers.

However, the Culture Minister John Whitting dale will be proposing the concentrates on niche and worthy shows to the Prime Minister, rather than those with a mass appeal.

Further, the Tory paper will argue mainstream entertainment shows do not fall within its public service remit.
