New York: Singer Eddie Montgomery's 19-year-old son, Hunter, has died following an accident that had left him on life support.

Hunter passed away yesterday, reported the New York Daily News.

"My son Hunter went to heaven today," Eddie said in a statement. "I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye."

The country star did not disclose any details about the accident, other than that his son was placed on life support at a Kentucky hospital.

Hunter was the youngest of Eddie's four children with his ex-wife, Tracy.

Eddie, 51, has been one-half of the country duo Montgomery Gentry, along with fellow Kentucky-native Troy Gentry, since 1999.

The band's official Twitter page tweeted its condolences on Sunday.

"Our sincerest love, thoughts and prayers are with Eddie today," the tweet read. Arrangements for the funeral are currently pending.
