Los Angeles: 'Jane the Virgin' actress Gina Rodriguez has revealed she has been diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis.
It is an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid gland is attacked by a variety of cells.
The 29-year-old actress, who was diagnosed with thyroid disease at the age of 19, said she did not know she has Hashimoto's thyroiditis until she completed filming the pilot episode of 'Jane the Virgin', reportedly.
Her doctors were shocked because she is doing well despite her Hashimoto's thyroiditis diagnosis as the disease is marked by fatigue, weight gain and joint and muscle pain.
"(My doctor said)'To be honest, I don't know how you're standing right now and why you're not asleep.' I was like, 'I just ran a half marathon,' Rodriguez said.
She stars on 'Jane the Virgin' along with Justin Baldoni, Brett Dier and Andrea Navedo.
