Govardhan Puja 2016: Timings, Tithi and Vidhi

New Delhi: Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakut Puja, falls on the next day of Diwali and marks the significance of God Indra's defeat by Lord Krishna. 

At times, there can also be a day's gap between Diwali and Govardhan Puja. Its worship rituals are performed during Pratipada Tithi of Kartik month. 

On this day, people offer food to lord Krishna. It is usually made of cereals like wheat, rice and gram flour.

Interestingly, this day is celebrated as Bali Pratipada or Bali Padva in the state of Maharashtra. The auspicious occasion celebrates the victory of Vamana, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, over king Bali.
