The government`s record attempt last year where 15,115 students congregated in Chennai and washed their hands as part of the World Handwashing day has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records, Health Secretary VK Subburaj said in an official press release. The students had taken part in an awareness programme jointly organised by the state Health Department, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Lifeboy Soaps in October last year. The Handwashing Day is observed to create awareness on personal hygiene, and the need to wash hands before consuming food and after going to the toilet, he said. PTI
