International Women’s Day is being celebrated across the country on Tuesday to mark the achievement of women in different spheres of life.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil said that the occasion "is being celebrated to recognize their commitment, dedication and achievements." An all-women crew would operate a 15-hour non-stop Air India flight from New Delhi to Toronto. National Commission of Women chairperson Girija Vyas said "there are serious issues which need to be braved by them in the country" In Jammu and Kashmir, the government has announced a scheme "Anmol Beti" to promote female literacy. In Rajasthan various programmes were also being organised on the occasion. ANI
