Jane Austen ring to remain in UK post Kelly Clarkson`s failed retention bid

London: A turquoise and gold ring that once belonged to author Jane Austen is set to remain in the UK, despite being bought by US singer Kelly Clarkson last year.
Clarkson bought the ring for 152,450 pounds at an auction, outbidding the Jane Austen`s House Museum, the BBC reported. However, the museum has since raised enough money to buy the ring with worldwide donations, and its bid has been accepted. Culture minister Ed Vaizey placed an export ban on the jewel, valid until September 30th, in a bid to keep the ring, which is accompanied by papers documenting its history, within the author`s family in the UK. Meanwhile, after hearing the museum had been successful in raising funds to purchase the ring, Clarkson said that the ring is a beautiful national treasure and she is happy to know that so many Austen fans will get to see it at the museum.
