Ahmedabad: Famous Italian restaurant Little Italy today opened its first outlet in the city, offering pure vegetarian Italian food to Gujarati taste buds.

Little Italy Group Express Foods Pvt Ltd is India's one of the largest chain of vegetarian Italian restaurants.

Company managing director Raj Mehta on the occasion said they are keen to expand their network across Gujarat.

"Ahmedabad was always in our radar to open Little Italy's outlet and also want to start (restaurants) in other cities of Gujarat. We already have an outlet in Vadodara and are also looking to open new ones in cities like Surat, Anand and Rajkot," he said.

Mehta said their speciality is to give experience of vegetarian Italian cuisines and not 'Indianise' the taste of Italian dishes.

For the new outlet in the city, the company has hired three chefs from Italy and will be importing around 30 per cent raw food materials from outside India.

Little Italy started its business in India in 1989 from Pune and currently has 34 outlets in the country and four outlets abroad, including one each in Dubai, Sharjah, Nepal and Bangkok.
