Mammootty wants to buy country's first people' s car!

New Delhi: How many of us remember the country's first people's car - Maruti 800 - that had become a  status symbol for many in our country?

Well, expressing his desire to own the first Maruti car, Malayalam movie superstar Mammootty wishes to own it. The keys of the cult car were handed over by the then PM Indira Gandhi on December 14, 1983 to owner Harpal Singh of Delhi.

Despite being a superstar and someone who can boast of the luxurious cars in his garage, his desire to purchase the Maruti 800 (which is sadly now being overlooked by many) shows his humble background.

Reports suggest that the car has not been used for over a year now and is rusting away ever since the owner Harpal Singh passed away in 2010 .
