Mr Madhuri Dixit rejects top job to serve those in need Zeenews Bureau

Mumbai: This one is not about actress Madhuri Dixit, but her husband Dr Sriram Nene. On Saturday morning, the patients of KEM hospital in Parel in Mumbai got a surprise visit by Dr Nene, who met with some of patients who had undergone heart surgeries.

Dr Nene, who shifted base to India in 2011 along with wife, actress Madhuri Dixit and their two sons, is soon going to take up the honorary post at the BMC-run KEM hospital. A cardiothoracic surgeon with special expertise in Mitral Valve repair surgery, Dr Nene was offered lucrative jobs by some of the leading ‘five star’ hospitals in the city. But Nene seems to have rejected high-flying jobs and has decided to work for a government hospital.

On Saturday, Dr Nene met KEM dean Sanjay Oak to discuss his joining date. According to a daily, he spent four hours meeting doctors and patients at KEM`s Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) building and was impressed by the services that the hospital offers to those who cannot afford an expensive medical treatment.

Dr Nene had offers to head premiere medical institutions like Harkisondas, Kokilaben and Hiranandani hospital. But Dr Nene wasn’t keen on doing a corporate job and was more interested to use his skills in a municipal hospital as the cases that come there are lot more varied.

Speaking to the daily, Dr Oak confirmed that Dr Nene had indeed met him and had decided to accept the honorary post. "Yes he is interested in doing work at KEM hospital. It`s a perfect match, but we will only decide once he is registered with the Maharashtra Medical Council," said Dr Oak.

Dr Nene, who has already applied for registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council, is expecting to get a nod from the council in a few weeks.

Madhuri’s husband graduated from one of the top medical schools of US- the Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, Missouri and was practicing at Rocky Mountain Cardiovascular in Denver, Colarado before the couple decided to shift to India.

While Madhuri has decided to make a comeback in films, the couple has also apparently bought space in Mumbai to set up their own production house. Whether or not he takes interest in films or television is something we will have to wait and watch but for now Dr Nene gets a big thumbs up from us for rejecting big offers to serve those who are in need of good medical treatment.

Madhuri Dikshit is just an actress. I am not sure why people treat actors and actresses like gods. Acting is just her job which helps her make money for herself in the same way that Dr. Nene makes money by being a doctor. Whether he practices in KEM Hospital, Mumbai or USA is his personal decision.I don't think it's anything great. There are many other physicians like Dr Panda who are also trained in the US but doing a great job in India. I think all this hype is just because Dr Nene is Madhuri Dikshit's husband. She too is just an ordinary actress, not mother Theresa that she should be praised so much. - Shraddha Patel - NJ
hmmm... the story lacks something....a US citizen can not work on a government job!!!!! Yes a doctor can practice if the medical council approves....but in a private hospital or private practice...but not government.... the basis of the story is a lie..... - AK - NJ
