Mumbaikars bid colourful adieu to Lord Ganesh defying terror threat

People in Mumbai on Monday started to bid a tearful adieu to Lord Ganesha, their favourite god who is known as the destroyer of all obstacles, following the procession of immersing the idols.

Following threats by Al Qaeda, the Mumbai Police held a special meet to discuss security measures, reports suggest. Security had been beefed up so as to avoid any untoward incident.

The Lal Baug chya Raja, is one of the most popular Ganesh idols that draws millions of devotes every year.

Several other idols from popular Ganesh Mandals too joined the grand procession as they made their way towards the sea for immersion amid tight security.

Lord Ganesha visited several homes and blessed humanity by his sheer presence in the form of various idols of different shapes and sizes. His presence at Ganesh Mandals attracted lakhs of devotees who travelled miles to catch a glimpse of him.

A number of idols were taken out of the pandals towards the Arabian sea. People in large numbers took to the streets to bid farewell to the Lord. Chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya were heard urging the Lord to return soon next year.
